The geographical position of Galati is also important:
Together with the nearby town of Braila, Galati forms Romania’s largest urban area after Bucharest, the capital.
Galati is the 5th largest town in Romania and also a major industrial city because it hosts the largest steel plant in Europe.
Galati is located in one of the poorest regions of Romania where many seniors or people from rural areas need help for their pets.
Galati is located 8km from the border with Ukraine, a big advantage in our campaign to support Ukranian animals.
Galati has a good, accessible infrastructure and logistics to make animal rescue work possible.
Located a maximum of 4 hours by car from Bucharest airport, it is accessible to international volunteers travelling to help.
Why does ROLDA have to help abused animals in Galati region?
1 in 3 families live in poverty.
75% of pet owners don’t know about the mandatory vet checks.
80% of total pet owners can’t afford to cover regular veterinary costs.
Thousands of street animals need a better life.
Total number of shelters in Galati region:
3 large state-managed Public Shelters (PS) for homeless and abandoned dogs in the Galati – Braila area.
Around 10 privately managed shelters, some authorized, some not. ROLDA has 2 dog shelters and 1 cat shelter in the authorized category.
0 shelters and 0 options for abused and senior horses and donkeys, labour animals that can no longer serve their owners.
Once created, the PawzUp Center will be the link between a community that needs to remember the benefits of animals in people’s lives and animals that desperately need human compassion and support.
The PawzUp Center will function as a hub for animals in need from nearby regions (Tulcea, Vaslui, Vrancea, Braila, etc) and also from countries like Ukraine, from where they need a way out to safety.
